The Vinaceous-breasted Parrot is disappearing because its habitat is going.
This parrot lives closely associated to a particular tree, the Araucaria of the Atlantic rain forest
But due to logging and the unplanned expansion of towns, these trees are vanishing. And so are the parrots.

In spite of the dramatic reduction is size, the Atlantic rain forest is still huge in the province of Misiones.
But due to logging, today the Araucaria trees are restricted to minute clusters.

The photo shows the shacks in the outskirts of San Pedro, a town in central Misiones.
This town has the rare privilege (or shame?) of existing right where the Araucaria trees grow.
You can see some of these wonderful and strange trees in the distance.
The shacks spring up among the trees. Then, due to claims arising from the risk of living under them
(heavy cones will fall), they must be cut - the trees that is!

And so, the town grows and the Araucaria forest vanishes. And the Vinaceous-breasted Parrot disappears.
